In Referly, a Smart Agent is an automated workflow that continuously monitors signals from your market and converts them into actionable opportunities.
A Smart Agent works in three steps:
Detect a signal indicating potential interest from a prospect
Apply filters to keep only the relevant people and companies
Trigger actions to notify your team or push the lead into your sales tools
For example, a Smart Agent can detect when:
A target company visits your website
A prospect interacts with a competitor on LinkedIn
A prospect engages with a topic related to your solution
A prospect interacts with an industry influencer
Once detected, the Smart Agent applies your targeting criteria and automatically creates an opportunity your team can act on.
⚠ Prerequisites before creating a Smart Agent
Before creating a Smart Agent, a few elements must already be configured in your workspace.
Required prerequisites:
Social Intents must be configured
Targeting Personas and Targeting Accounts must be configured
Creating a Smart Agent
Once the prerequisites are configured, you can create your first Smart Agent.
Each Smart Agent is built from three components:
A Signal
Filters
Actions
Step 1: Define the signal
The signal is the event that triggers the Smart Agent.
When you select the signal block, a configuration panel opens with the available signal types.
Website visits
This signal detects when companies visit your website.
⚠ Important requirement:
To use this signal, the Referly tracking script must be installed on your website.
Without the tracker installed, website visit signals cannot be detected.
Contact the Referly team to know more about the tracker.
Influencer interactions
This signal detects when prospects interact on LinkedIn with influencers you configured in your Social Intents.
Competitor interactions
This signal detects when prospects interact with the LinkedIn accounts of companies you defined as competitors.
This may indicate that a prospect is researching solutions in your category.
Topic interactions
This signal detects when prospects interact with LinkedIn posts containing keywords related to topics you defined in Social Intents.
This can indicate interest in problems your solution addresses.
Step 2: Configure filters
After defining the signal, you need to apply filters to ensure only relevant prospects are captured.
There are two types of filters :
Contact filters
Contact filters apply to individual people.
They correspond to the Targeting Personas you previously created.
Company filters
Company filters apply to accounts (companies).
They correspond to your Targeting Accounts.
Exclusion filters
You can also exclude:
Specific companies
Specific personas
This helps prevent unwanted leads (such as competitors or existing customers) from appearing in your Smart Agent results.
Step 3: Configure actions
The final step is defining what happens when the Smart Agent detects a valid signal.
Recommended Action (default)
Every Smart Agent automatically creates a Recommended Action in Referly.
This action is mandatory and cannot be removed, ensuring that every detected signal results in a visible opportunity inside the platform.
Additional automation actions
You can also add optional actions such as:
Send the lead to Hubspot
Send a Slack notification
Push the lead to Lemlist
Send the data to a webhook for integration with third-party tools
These actions allow Smart Agents to integrate directly into your sales workflow.
⚠ Pre-requisites
To push leads to third-party platforms, you must ensure that you have connected them to your account beforehand
